Synopsis

But once Dicky gets a hold over her, Blair’s life becomes hell. And she’s not alone—nobody stands in Dicky’s way, not even if it means murder. DOUBLES IN DEATH: Alan Patterson is an ad executive and Lucy Hanson a receptionist in the building, and during lunch, he strikes up a conversation with her. Alan is happily married but he can’t help but notice the obvious attention of young Lucy—she’s always staring at him. Still, Alan has no idea how infatuated Lucy is with him. She starts calling him at home. At first Alan’s wife Judy brushes her off, but then Lucy sends a letter, and her concern begins to grow. Alan tries to put a stop to Lucy, but she just doesn’t seem to get the message. Then Merle enters the scene. He also works in the building. Merle dreams of the soft life. He wants what Alan has—all of it.

About the Author

William O’Farrell was born William Buchanan Farrell in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 24, 1904, moving with his family to Pittsburgh in 1915. At age 16 he dropped out of school to work on the Pittsburgh Post, then in 1922 began traveling around Europe, eventually becoming a Merchant Seaman. Around 1936, O’Farrell settled in Santa Monica where he first became an actor before turning to writing. He is best known for the 1942 novel Repeat Performance, which was filmed in 1947, but he also wrote for TV shows such as Perry Mason, Thriller and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. O’Farrell won an Edgar in 1959 for his short story, “Over There, Darkness” which was turned into an Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode starring Bette Davis. He died in Los Angeles on March 27, 1962.
