Embark on an unforgettable journey through love’s soaring heights and shattering depths with The Devotee’s Prayer, a poignant novel that weaves a tapestry of passion, heartbreak, and redemption across fifty years. Set against the vibrant pulse of Kolkata’s monsoon-soaked streets and the ethereal solitude of Alaska’s wilderness, this is a story that will grip your heart, leaving you breathless and teary-eyed, compelled to savor every word.
In a small West Bengal town, sixteen-year-old Rajesh “Raj” Kumar, a dreamer with a poet’s soul, falls deeply in love with Tanusree, his radiant classmate whose laughter is his world. Under a banyan tree’s sacred shade, their friendship blossoms, but Raj’s heartfelt confession—penned in a note at a bustling school fair—fractures their bond, sending Tanusree retreating into silence. Desperate to reclaim her, Raj’s actions spiral, culminating in a public act of despair that leads to his rustication. Yet, a glimmer of hope emerges in Tanusree’s words, promising a future chance, fueling Raj’s resolve to rise from his ashes.
Driven by her memory, Raj transforms his pain into triumph, topping his 10th boards with 95 percent and earning a place at IIT Kharagpur, later becoming a revered professor. But shadows linger—twenty-five fleeting encounters, a hidden life born of longing, betray his devotion to Tanusree, a goddess in his heart. In 2025 Kolkata, Raj meets Priya, a writer whose warmth rekindles his hope for love. Their romance, blossoming in a cozy Park Street café, is tested when Raj confesses his past, a truth that shatters Priya’s trust, leaving him alone with his regrets.
Haunted by Tanusree’s image, Raj retreats to a locked room, a shrine of her photos, where he pours out his soul, seeking forgiveness for his sins. Decades later, at seventy-five, he seeks solace in an Alaskan village, where a chance encounter with young lovers Arjun and Meera stirs his past. Sharing his tale of love and loss, Raj unknowingly connects with Arjun, Tanusree’s adopted son, leading to a heartrending reunion under an aurora-lit sky. As Raj kneels before his goddess, proposing with a lifetime’s devotion, his heart gives way, leaving Tanusree to mourn a love she finally understands.
Crafted by Sagar Kumar (pen name of Raj Kumar Tiwary), a Kolkata-based researcher, teacher, writer, and traveller with degrees in Physics (MSc, BSc), this novel is inspired by the author’s own childhood love, infusing Raj’s journey with raw authenticity. With lyrical prose and vivid imagery—from Kolkata’s neon rivers to Alaska’s frost-kissed spruces—The Devotee’s Prayer is a love story that transcends time, culminating in a poetic epilogue that will leave readers weeping.
Perfect for fans of epic romances and emotional sagas, this novel is a testament to love’s enduring power, a book you’ll cherish long after the final page. Buy The Devotee’s Prayer now and lose yourself in a story that sings of devotion, forgiveness, and the heart’s eternal quest.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free.
