About the Author

Rev. Msgr. Jules O. Daigle (1900-1998), an ordained Catholic priest since 1925, reared in Lafayette, Louisiana, spent thousands of hours compiling these two books, A DICTIONARY OF THE CAJUN LANGUAGE and CAJUN SELF-TAUGHT, true examples of his deep love and dedication to the Cajun culture and it's people. Rev. Daigle's Cajun Dictionary is recognized as a great accomplishment. His work was likened to that of Samuel Johnson compiling the first English dictionary in 1755. Rev. Daigle was the first to compose a seemingly complete dictionary of the Cajun language. Later, being the only priest old enough to have experienced the old, unaffected Cajun language, Rev. Daigle reverted to his life-long immersion in the Cajun language to compose CAJUN SELF-TAUGHT, a self-instructional guide for learning to speak the language which was so dear to him.
