Dictionary of Development: Third World Economy (Garland Reference Library of Social Science)

Book by Brian W. W. Welsh, Pavel Butorin

Fourth World, structural violence, Tokyo Round, the World Bank, family planning, hunger, and trade and development are among the topics and organizations defined and discussed here in entries ranging from brief paragraphs to 10-page articles with bibliographies. Although there is a short compendium of country statistics, country information is not the focus, as it is in the Encyclopedia of the Third World (Facts on File, 1987. 3d ed.), the Third World Economic Handbook (Gale, 1989. 2d ed.), or the Third World Guide 89/90 (Neal-Schumann, 1988). Although many of the terms, topics, and organizations may be found in other subject sources or encyclopedias, this dictionary brings together in one place topical information pertaining to the Third World in a manner that is understandable to the layperson or student. Recommended for medium to large public and academic libraries with Third World studies collections.
