Dictionary of the Renaissance

8vo. 646pp. from front flap: "The Dictionary is an historical reference work for students of the Renaissance conceived as a great cultural and intellectual age; therefore the great bulk of the entries is given over to biographical sketches of artists, humanists, philosophers, etc., and to characterizations of their works or achievement. But since the political and social context of the age is of great importance, the compilers have added a considerable amount of material on leading political and military figures and events, social evolution, the history of the principal Italian cities, etc. Nor are the Reformation and Counter Reformation ignored, although they have little intrinsic connection with the Renaissance." #04139. Book VG: mild shelf wear to boards and spine, toning and offset to endpapers, text clean, binding tight. DJ VG-: rubbing, corner and edge wear, NOT clipped.
