Synopsis

The Colloquium on Differential Equations and Applications (Budapest, August 21-24, 1991) was organized by the János Bolyai Mathematical Society, the Loránd Eötvös University and the Budapest University of Technology. It was sponsored by the National Committee for Technological Development.

The emphasis was on partial differential equations and their applications. Topics treated in the talks and in this volume range from non-linear elliptic problems to reaction-diffusion systems, from retarded functional differential equations to different problems of bifurcation theory. There were several talks about applications, for instance in beam theory, in biology, in heat transfer problems etc.
