Synopsis
»Dimensions. Journal of Architectural Knowledge« is an academic journal in, on, and from the discipline of architecture, addressing the creation, constitution, and transmission of architectural knowledge. It explores methods genuine to the discipline and architectural modes of interdisciplinary methodological adaptions. Processes, procedures, and results of knowledge creation and practice are esteemed coequally, with particular attention to the architectural design and epistemologies of aesthetic practice and research.
Dimensions Issue 4/2022, edited by Max Treiber, Sandra Meireis, and Julian Franke, provides a comprehensive collection of theories, methods, and visions to highlight the relevance of montage for visual and spatial practices as well as for knowledge production in architecture.
About the Authors
Max Treiber, born in 1988, works as an architect in Munich and researches at the Chair of Architectural Design and Conception, Technische Universität München. He studied architecture in Münster and Berlin and has worked in several architecture offices in Tokyo, Zurich, and Berlin. In his ongoing doctoral thesis »Architectural Montages - Scenarios of Everyday Spaces« he investigates the connection between space and image using the example of a body of work by the Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri.
Sandra Meireis (Dr.-Ing.) ist Architekturwissenschaftlerin und Autorin. Sie lebt in Berlin und lehrt seit 2010 Architekturgeschichte und -theorie an verschiedenen Hochschulen: Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart, Universität Stuttgart, Technische Universität Berlin, Hochschule für Technik Stuttgart und Universität Kassel. Sie promovierte sich am Lehrstuhl für Architekturtheorie der TU Berlin (2020) und vertrat zuletzt die Professur für Architektur- und Designgeschichte/Architekturtheorie an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart (2021-23). In ihren Forschungen, Publikationen und Vorträgen konzentriert sie sich auf die Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur und des Städtebaus, mit Themen an Schnittstellen zur Kulturwissenschaft, Politik und Ästhetik.
Julan Franke is an architect and research assistant at the Competence Center for Typology & Planning at the Lucerne School of Engineering and Architecture.
