Dining Out with History

Travels, tales and tastes of Atlantic Canada are woven into the words in this book.

From Four-Cents Bread to Switchel, from Tipsy Cake to Jailhouse Biscuits, meet characters from the past as they create these dishes, and use this book to guide you to the historic sites where they were cooked.

All doors are open at twenty living history sites that offer us a taste of the past in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador. See how people lived, and learn about how they dined -- when life moved at a slower pace.

Jan Feduck treasures her Maritime roots. Her home is in Elora, Ontario, and she enjoys summers at her cottage beside the ocean in Nova Scotia, a base camp from which to explore the Maritimes. With family ancestry dating back to the 1700s in Point de Bute, New Brunswick and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, she feels a strong connection to the history of the East Coast. A lifelong passion for travel has taken her to over forty countries while raising three travel-loving children with her history-loving husband. In all of her journeys, she seeks out food history destinations. As a published travel writer she hopes to inspire others to turn down those dirt roads, and explore what lies beyond the everyday.
