Dinosaur Hunt! (True Adventures)

Takes readers to an actual dinosaur dig in Montana, an excavation that has resulted in the surprise discovery of Torosaurus bones, and explains the landscape and habits of the dinosaur's prehistoric past.

Grade 2-5-- This expedition uses full-color photos to explain how a Torosaurus fossil was found and recovered. The text and illustrations are clear and easy to follow, and capture the excitement of making such a discovery. The illustrations show male and female (but mostly white) excavators. A list of dinosaur organizations gives further sources for information. The list of additional titles includes Horner and Gorman's adult Digging Dinosaurs (Workman, 1988), an odd choice when there are so many others better suited to this grade level. Johnson's book is quite similar to several other recent offerings on dinosaur digs; libraries that own Lasky's Dinosaur Dig (Morrow, 1990) and Aliki's Digging Up Dinosaurs (Crowell, 1988), might want to pass on this one. --Cathryn A.
