Powell was a notable poet, a man of letters and an industrious legal antiquarian. In this work, the Attourney's Academy and the Attornies' Almanack Powell offered guidance to lawyers concerning the location and use of records, mostly to settle title claims. All are mentioned favorably by Holdsworth, who notes that the study of early records was an important aspect of legal education. In a sense, these books helped students to locate material for study. They are also important sources for students of Shakespeare. (All are listed in Lee's Catalogue of Shakespeareana).
