In this volume the object, therefore, has been to illustrate the application of principles by examples taken both from recent and more remote wars. While operations on land have primarily been considered, the. Inﬂuence of sea and air power on these operations has also been examined; and since past British experience is likely to be most instructive as regards future British campaigns, the examples quoted have been drawn from British rather than from foreign wars.
