Joel Baumann was born to a diplomat dad and a beautiful mum in Bogota/Colombia in 1996. After travelling a lot he reached London via India, Germany, Japan, the U.S.A and France. He studied at the University of Westminster, where he met his current colleges at tomato interactive. He left with a BA in Contemporary Media Practice and an MA in Hypermedia to work at Tinderbox, Sony BPE and Antirom before co-founding tomato interactive in 1999. Some of his current clients include Sony, Levis and Mitsubishi.

After studying a degree in film video and photography in 1991, began working in the multimedia industry. After several freelance roles including technical and creative director, he started working at tomato, heading up their first cd rom project. At the same time he was involved with the arts collective antirom that published a cd rom with arts funding in 1995. Antirom developed into a commercial venture and continued till spring 1999 when Tomas and two of his antirom colleagues began Tomato Interactive. He has won several design awards including three D&AD silvers and has given several talks around the world. As well as his commercial undertakings, he is currently teaching on product design at the Royal College of Art as well as producing installations for several international exhibitions.

Darrel Plant is Publisher at Moshofsky/Plant Creative Services in Portland, Oregon, and the Technical Editor of the Director Online User Group (www.director-online.com) where he oversees the production of three to five articles a week on Director and Flash. He's the author/co-author of four books on multimedia and a contributor to two others (including this one); written numerous articles for magazines including WIRED; published a short-lived book review magazine; worked as a radio DJ playing alternative music back when it was still known as 'college rock'; once offered himself up to the voters as a candidate for the Oregon State Legislature.

andy cameron is a founder member of the antirom collective. He founded the Hypermedia Research Centre at the University of Westminster in 1996 and started Romandson Ltd in 1999. He has been active in commercial and experimental interactive media design since the early 1990s, as well as writing extensively on the aesthetics and political economy of interactive media. Andy currently divides his time between the Romandson studio in London and the Benetton Fabrica studio in North Italy where he is Creative Director of New Media.

Andrew Allenson was born in Bedfordshire and studied at Goldsmiths' College in London. He divides his time between teaching, consultancy and developing his personal projects. Andrew helped start ANTIROM and then ROM+SON studios, and teaches at the Royal College of Art. His is currently working on pickledonion.com, a collection of simple toys that explore complexity, emergence and group behaviour using sound and light.
