From the Asian tsunami of 2004 to hurricane Katrina in 2005 and the Tohoku earthquake of 2011, our century has been fraught with catastrophic natural disasters. C. Emdad Haque is professor at the Natural Resources Institute at the University of Manitoba. David Etkin is assistant professor and coordinator of the Program in Emergency Management at York University.
