A Discourse Delivered At The One Hundredth Anniversary Of The Organization Of The First Baptist Church In North Stonington, September 20Th, 1843. With An Appendix, Etc by Albert G. Palmer. This centennial discourse outlines the early history and development of the First Baptist Church in North Stonington, set against the broader context of Baptist emergence in 18th-century America. Palmer recounts the church’s origins in the mid-1700s amid religious revival, persecution, and a prevailing tension between church and state, and traces the leadership and trials of its pastors through to the early 19th century. The work emphasizes congregational church governance, the restoration of gospel ordinances, and the role of revivals in consolidating Baptist identity. The included appendix offers anecdotal records, minutes, and notes on associations and key figures, illustrating how this small New England congregation grew into a regional denomination and illustrating the enduring principles of faith, autonomy, and scriptural authority that guided its development.
