Bartlett (1756?-1844), a doctor in Boston, gave a lecture on resuscitation to the Humane Society, founded in 1786 for preventing drowning and supporting victims of shipwrecks. In addition to the text of his talk, the pamphlet includes an appendix reprinting the act of incorporation for the Society, along with other documents relating to their activities, a donation list, and a member list.
