Delve into how Latin prohibitions work, and why the perfect subjunctive often deserves a second look.
This concise study reexamines the use of the perfect subjunctive in prohibitions, challenging common grammar assumptions and presenting a careful, evidence‑based analysis across classical and Silver Latin texts.
This edition focuses on the 2nd person present and perfect tenses in prohibitions, and on how ne, neve, and neque behave in different registers and periods. It offers clear discussion, representative examples, and a method that helps readers evaluate claims about tense and mood in prohibitive constructions.- Clear explanations of when prohibitions use the present vs. the perfect tense.
- Discussion of how ne, neve, and neque function in prohibitions across Cicero, Livy, and later authors.
- Representative passages showing how prohibitions appear in poetry, prose, and legal texts.
- Guidance for interpreting seemingly inconsistent examples without overreliance on traditional rules.

Store description
