Disney Masters Collector's: The Man from Altacraz / Pie in the Sky: Vol 17-18

This season's Disney Masters slipcased gift box set collects Volume 17 and Volume 18 in our popular series: In Vol. 17, Mickey Mouse and Uncle Scrooge tackle crafty ― and not-so-crafty ― crooks in adventures in these comics stories by legendary Italian “Maestro” Romano Scarpa! In Vol. 18, Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck battle old foes and ancient curses in wild comics adventures by fan-favorite artist William Van Horn!
Fantagraphics’ Disney Masters series unearths a treasure trove of previously unavailable comics epics in the grand Walt Disney tradition: expanding the lore of Mickey, Donald, and Scrooge, anthologizing the work of fan-favorite North American talents, and bringing you the best of the acclaimed international artists who have popularized Disney around the world.

Born in Palmanova, Rodolfo Cimino (1927-2012) assisted Romano Scarpa and, in 1961, Cimino became a Disney comics writer. After a departure in the 1970s and '80s to serve in politics - at one point, he was the Vice President of the Venice province ― Cimino returned to Disney, focusing on Scrooge stories.

In addition to writing Disney comics for 25 years, John Lustig (1953-), born in Seattle, Washington, has written outrageously silly comics for Marvel, Viz, and more. Lustig is best known for his Last Kiss comics, which feature vintage romance art with witty new dialogue.

Romano Scarpa (1927–2005) trained as a fine artist and an architect. He left his own animation studio in 1953 to draw original comics stories for Walt Disney’s Italian publisher. He is most famous for his stories starring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Snow White.

Animator and cartoonist William Van Horn, today a Canadian citizen, was born in Oakland, California. A frequent contributor to the Fantagraphics anthology Critters, Van Horn has also been a beloved Donald Duck, Uncle Scrooge, and DuckTales comic book talent since 1987.

David Gerstein is an animation and comics researcher, writer, and editor best known for his work with The Walt Disney Company and its licensees. His published projects include Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck: The Don Rosa Library (Fantagraphics, 2014-2018) and Mickey Mouse: The Ultimate History (with J.B. Kaufman; Taschen, 2018). He lives in North Carolina.
