Ex Libris. 8vo (22.1 x 14.1 cm). Contemporary blind-stamped maroon cloth. Collaition: [v]-xvi, [1]-220 [16- Ads] pp. + 6 hand colored lithograph plates. Binding has loss to top of spine, minor to corners. Institutional circular indexing label is at top of spine. Ad is pasted to ffep. Discard stamp on front pastedown and half title; circular library stamp on title page. The text and plates are exceptionally clean and bright. The advertisement at rear is a Publisher's catalogue "corrected April 1846) This classic research by Burrows was critical in dispelling the earlier hypothesis by Monro-Kellie that the blood volume in the brain remains constant. Burrows "demonstrated that the amount of blood in the brain can vary and this may be responsible for clinical signs." This publication "was a milestone in the study of cerebral vascular physiology."
