Disrupting Finance : FinTech and Strategy in the 21st Century

This open access Pivot demonstrates how a variety of technologies act as innovation catalysts within the banking and financial services sector. Traditional banks and financial services are under increasing competition from global IT companies such as Google, Apple, Amazon and PayPal whilst facing pressure from investors to reduce costs, increase agility and improve customer retention. Technologies such as blockchain, cloud computing, mobile technologies, big data analytics and social media therefore have perhaps more potential in this industry and area of business than any other. Theo Lynn is Professor of Digital Business at Dublin City University, Ireland, and is the Principal Investigator (PI) of the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce, an Enterprise Ireland/IDA-funded Cloud Computing Technology Centre.

John G. Mooney is Associate Professor of Information Systems and Technology Management and Academic Director of the Executive Doctorate in Business Administration at the Pepperdine Graziadio Business School, USA.

Pierangelo Rosati is Assistant Professor in Business Analytics at DCU Business School, Ireland. He previously worked as Post-Doctoral Researcher at the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing and Commerce (IC4).

Mark Cummins is Professor of Finance at DCU Business School, Ireland. He holds a PhD in Quantitative Finance with specialism in the application of integral transforms and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) for derivatives valuation and risk management.
