Synopsis
Is the Christian Bible truly inspired by God and free of error? We are told from an early age not to doubt or even question these premises, yet how will we know for certain if we don't ask the questions and then seek the answers. This book dares ask the forbidden questions, then provides analysis from both a scientific and scriptural comparison. This is not a book of answers to every question on religion, but rather it is an intellectual prompt. Call it a sign post, pointing the way to a new understand of the holy texts.
About the Author
My life began in rural Idaho, a place noted for conservative religious commitment. I remember as a young lad watching inspirational shows on Sunday morning with my grandfather, and often grandmother would drag me off to church. Even at an early age, about 8 as I recall, I sensed an uneasiness about, caused by the many tough questions I insisted upon asking. For me, the questions seemed valid and I wanted answers. For the devoutly religious, the questions were of things that were never meant to be questioned. The "God is all powerful", "God works in mysterious ways", and "it is God's will" type of answers just didn't cut it for me. The more I learned, the more questions I had. By high school, math and science skills had reached the point that I could see fundamental problems with many of the stories. The skepticism grew through my college days, as I pursued a degree in Decision Science. But the one story that was likely the "back breaker" of blind faith for me was the Great Flood story. In science I had learned that the crust is very thin and susceptible to stress fractures. Was it even physically possible for the Earth's crust to carry the weight of the Great Flood and, if so, survive the relieving of the massive stress as the waters subsided? Is there even sufficient hydrogen and oxygen on our planet to make that much water? It became a passion of mine to research the story from every possible scientific angle, and to quite literally "do the math". The result was clear. The story was physically, geologically, elementally, biologically, and structurally impossible. Not simply improbable, but actually impossible.
