A Dissertation On The Authenticity Of Poems Of Ossian (1806)

A Dissertation On The Authenticity Of Poems Of Ossian (1806) is a scholarly work written by John Sinclair. The book explores the authenticity of the poems of Ossian, a legendary Scottish bard. The author examines the historical evidence and literary style of the poems to determine whether they were truly written by Ossian or were the work of James Macpherson, a Scottish poet who claimed to have translated them from ancient Gaelic manuscripts. Sinclair argues that the poems are likely the work of Macpherson, and he provides detailed analysis to support his thesis. The book is a valuable resource for scholars of Scottish literature and history, as well as anyone interested in the debate surrounding the authenticity of the Ossianic poems. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
