A smart early edition of this interesting philosophical work in a contemporary full-calf binding. Early edition. Smartly bound in full contemporary calf. Featuring the preface by the Reverend William Whewell, a former Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, and influential polymath. An intriguing study of the development of ethical philosophy throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Written by James Mackintosh, a Scottish jurist and Whig politician, whose interests extended to the fields of medicine, history and philosophy. Smartly bound in full contemporary calf. With the bookplate of Edward Festi Kelly to the front paste down. Externally, smart with reasonable shelf wear, leading to light loss of leather and marking, especially to the extremities and rear board. Internally, firmly bound. More significant spotting to the first and last few pages, otherwise generally bright and clean with just the odd spot. Very Good.
