Dissipation, by the Author of 'Realities'

Dissipation, By The Author Of 'Realities' by Anne Raikes Harding. Dissipation: A Tale of Simple Life in Four Volumes follows Rachel Thornton, a woman drawn into fashionable dissipation at the Clovers and Hanby, whose wealth and domestic peace crumble under a chain of debts, illicit schemes, and social rivalries. The narrative traces her ascent through philanthropic work and fashionable circles, the marriage to Edward Thornton, the extravagances and debaucheries of a squandered estate, and the eventual downfall of both husband and wife. The plot moves from Victorian England to Welton and Charlestown, where Rachel’s friends—George Hardcastle, Clara Greysham, Anna Eastwald, and the Quaker community—attempt to salvage her life. The work is a moral panorama of temptation, reform, and redemption, concluding with Rachel’s reintegration into a sober, religious life and the restoration of a humane, charitable circle.
