De tous les chats sauvages, le l�opard est l'esp�ce la plus commune et la plus largement distribu�e (Nowell et Jackson, 1996), que l'on trouve dans presque tous les types d'habitats (Kitchener, 1991). En raison de l'augmentation de la population humaine, de la perte d'habitats et du braconnage, la population de l�opards a �t� affect�e de mani�re n�gative. Le l�opard est un animal de l'annexe I du Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, qui conf�re � l'esp�ce le niveau de protection le plus �lev� en Inde. L'ensemble des �tudes de terrain a �t� r�alis� dans le parc national de Mukandra Hills, � Kota, au Rajasthan, entre mars et juin 2013. Ce parc est situ� dans la partie sud-ouest du Rajasthan de l'�tat de l'Inde, et les coordonn�es sont de 25�03'-24�48' � 75�43'-75�59', 199,45 km�. Le parc national de Mukandara Hills est dens�ment bois� et s'�tend sur un terrain vallonn�. Les l�opards sont r�partis dans l'ensemble du PNHM et 15 l�opards au total sont pr�sents dans le parc.
