Divine Property

There is a humble and hard-earned wisdom evident within Divine Property: whether confronting the harsh reality of urban poverty or pondering our connection to the animal kingdom, Gavin's poems embody the perspective of one who endeavors to "shake (his) gloom and walk toward the longest/ day." This deep engagement with the world requires poems that move back and forth between memory and the present moment, offering descriptive passages of lived experience alongside allegorical explorations of ancient tales, all with an eye to what is marvelous within our everyday lives. While Gavin's work is deeply philosophical, his poems are chiseled from direct and approachable language, wrought by someone who has learned that the answers to life's biggest questions might involve "growing satisfied/ with what's simple, what holds."
