Reviews: This is a revised edition of a book published in Italian in 1977. Although significantly improved over the original U.S. edition ( LJ 1/15/78), it is still seriously flawed. Topics covered range from diving equipment to physiology, the marine environment, and diving techniques. The quality and depth of the presentation varies widely, and much of the book is too advanced for the beginner. The book is also of questionable value for Americans. Many European communications techniques are taught, and all of the technical information is given in metric terms, while U.S. equipment and instruction uses inches, feet, and pounds. Would-be divers are best served by a certified instructor and the books designed to complement in-class and in-water instruction.
