Le DIX-Huit Mars: Récit Des Faits Et Recherce Des Causes De L'insurrection. Rapport Fait À L'assemblés Nationale Au Nom De La Commission D'enquête Sur Le 18 Mars 1871 — Martial Delpit. This historical parliamentary report documents the Paris insurrection of March 18, 1871 and investigates its social and political roots. The volume combines a narrative of events (capitulation of Paris, the armistice, street clashes, and the rise of the Paris Commune) with a critical analysis of underlying causes (material factors like armament, the demoralization of the Guard, the annexation of suburbs, as well as moral factors including religious decay, secular ideologies, and the influence of the International). It is divided into two main parts: Faits (Récit des faits) and Causes (Recherche des causes), followed by conclusions and an appendix of documentary pieces. Delpit argues that insurrection was not merely a political failure but a crisis of social order requiring reforms in education, religion, press, governance, and economic policy. The text includes editor’s notes and postscript discussions, and aims to illuminate what happened and to propose remedies to prevent a repetition of such catastrophes.
