John Peel (1946–2015) was a British science fiction writer best known for his contributions to the Doctor Who novel range. He wrote more than twenty Doctor Who novels for Virgin Publishing and BBC Books, making him one of the most prolific authors associated with the franchise in the 1990s and 2000s.

Peel wrote stories featuring several incarnations of the Doctor, including the Second, Third, Fourth, Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth Doctors. His work is noted for its accessible prose and for expanding the Doctor Who universe while remaining consistent with established continuity.

In addition to Doctor Who, he also wrote original science fiction and fantasy novels and contributed to other media tie-in projects.
