Single, childless, J.T. Rosen�a poet and college professor who has failed to live up to her early promise�has constructed a careful, orderly life around her work and the little house she has lived in alone for many years. About the Author

Michelle Herman is the author of Missing, a novel, and a collection of novellas, A New and Glorious Life. Her first nonfiction book, The Middle of Everything, was published in 2004.

Born and raised in Brooklyn and educated at Brooklyn College and the University of Iowa Writers� Workshop, she lives now with her husband, still life painter Glen Holland, and their daughter, Grace (and too many pets), in Columbus, Ohio where she teaches at Ohio State University.
