PreSchool-Grade 1?Dudley the dog feels that something is missing in his seemingly good life, so he runs away to the country to find it. He lives with some pigs, a donkey, and some rabbits before returning home, where he finds that his owner has a new canine pet who has longed for a companion like Dudley. While the premise is clever, the text is not completely successful. Miceli's detailed illustrations featuring cartoon animals far outshine the story. Paintings of Dudley coming to resemble a pig, a donkey, and a rabbit add some humor.
