En primer lugar, comprende el argumento de varias historias: es una deliciosa novela rosa, en la mejor tradici�n del g�nero; es la historia de un beso que perturba y conmueve a toda una respetable ciudad provinciana; es un relato ejemplar en el cual la protagonista renuncia al amor del hombre que ama en beneficio de una amiga pobre, hace donaci�n de una parte de sus riquezas entre amigos y servidores y, finalmente, consagra el resto de su vida al ejercicio de la caridad, fundando un orfanato en tierras lejanas (Rep�blica Argentina) (...).Los temas que cohesionan los precipitados acontecimientos son genuinamente azorinianos: la obsesi�n del tiempo que en Do�a In�s ofrece una variante muy sugestiva; la Fatalidad, inexorable diosa de nuestro destino; la pasi�n, sofrenada y racionalizada; la creaci�n literaria (la aprehensi�n del motivo, su realizaci�n sobre el blanco papel, el talante emotivo y racional del escritor-autor); el arte y la vida; la realidad y la ilusi�n. (...)Azor�n subtitul� la novela Historia de amor, lo que parece significar que el sentimiento amoroso era el tema m�s representativo en ella.
