"Death of Albrecht Beiling". Albrecht Beiling was a 15th century historical Dutch person, who was sentenced to be buried alive by Jacoba van Beieren (Jacqueline, Countess of Hainaut). The print shows the moment of his end, with Beiling standing in the center holding a crucifix. A priest stands beside him, while to the side someone is digging the grave. Several knights and guards are present, and a windmill is visible in the background. Steel engraving on wove paper, sheet size 285 x 215 mm., image size 182 x 145 mm. Engraved by Johann Wilhelm Kaiser, 1842-1844. This print was published in: J.P. Arend, Algemeene geschiedenis des vaderlands, Amsterdam, 5 delen, 1840-1882, dl. 2.2, p. 496. Johann Wilhelm Kaiser (Amsterdam 1813 - 1900 Leiden) was a Dutch painter, (reproductive) engraver, museum director (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam 1874-1883) and teacher at the Academy. In good condition, small nicks in the left margin, scattered foxing in the left and lower margins.
