A beautiful, inspiring work blending innovative calligraphy with the expressive language of The Living Bible. Combining his artistic talent with the majesty of Scripture, world-renowned calligrapher Timothy R. Botts has created 60 full-color pieces.

THE EARLY HEBREWS placed texts of Scripture on the doorposts of their dwelling places as reminders to love God and follow Him. In a similar way, Tim Botts has taken sixty of the great Bible passages and, in his fresh, emotive style, interwoven background, text, and image so they become one. His unique style strikes a beautiful balance between visual expression and legibility with the ultimate goal of giving a face to that which is of the Spirit.

From consummate art lover to child, from urbane scholar to the common man―all can derive pleasure and inspiration from this work. May Doorposts be a reminder in your home of our God, who has communicated His love to us.

TIMOTHY R. BOTTS graduated with a degree in graphic design from Carnegie Mellon University, during which time he apprenticed in calligraphy with Arnold Bank. He spent three years in Japan teaching conversational English and was influenced by the rich tradition of their brush writing. Over the course of forty years he designed more than six hundred books for Tyndale House Publishers near Chicago, where he was a senior art director before retiring in 2012.

Ten of his own books have been published, including Doorposts, Messiah, and a Bible illustrated in his calligraphy. He is a part-time instructor with College of DuPage and has taught workshops internationally. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Newberry Library. His newest body of work, Bound for Glory, is based on African American spirituals.

In 1995, together with friends, he helped form Masterpiece Ministries, an outreach to high school students in the arts, and he is currently their artistic director. He and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of three grown children and numerous grandchildren.
