355pp. Red spine, tan boards. Silver titles on spine, red titles on front board. Bottom edge of back board bumped, wear to corners as well. Text block clean and unmarked. Dust jacket shows mild wear to extremities, and splits at upper end of spine where jacket panels meet spine, but original $10.00 price is intact on front jacket flap. Foxing to inside of jacket, not evident externally. Dust jacket in mylar sleeve. Introduction by C. Vann Woodward. Collected writings of activist Rustin, whose greatest influence was wielded behind the scenes due to the fact his sexuality subjected him to additional scrutiny and criticism. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, posthumously, during the Obama administrations first term. A biopic drawn from events in Rustins life, entitled Rustin, appeared in 2023. Uncommon title in hardcover.

The Chatham Bookseller has been in historic Madison, NJ for more than fifty years. Ours is a general shop which emphasizes good literature, art and scholarly books in many different fields. We specialize in rare books, modern first editions and ephemera. The shop is open six days a week and we encourage browsing. We are happy to bring out books listed online upon request. We also do book searches and appraisals. Since April 2026, The Chatham Bookseller has been owned and operated by Kate Park. The store hours are 10-5:30 Tuesday through Friday, 10:00 to 5:00 on Saturday and 11-4 on Sunday. …
