Act this way, Aidan. Talk that way, Aidan. You’re not a baby anymore—but don’t be so sassy and grown-up either.

Twelve-year-old Aidan McAllister already has more than enough to juggle: cheerleading, fashion, art classes, babysitting, school… and keeping her ten-year-old bratski brother Zach out of trouble. She rarely thinks about anything beyond her busy, rule-filled life.

Until the secrets inside a battered wooden box change everything.

When Aidan and Zach spend three stormy summer days with their mysterious Aunt Neece, they discover a curious wooden box Aunt Neece calls the Rainy Day Box.

Inside is a dragon!

With a flash of green light, a dragon named J crashes into their world, and nothing will ever be the same. Aidan learns her family has guarded a powerful secret for generations. In just two months, when she turns thirteen, the role of dragon guardian will pass to her… if she has the courage to accept it.

But J comes from the Otherworld—a dark and dangerous place where the rules are different… and breaking them has consequences.

Heavy responsibility awaits, and becoming a dragon guardian may cost Aidan more than she’s ready to give.
