The Dramatic Works Of Robert Greene: To Which Are Added His Poems. With Some Account Of The Author, And Notes (Volume I)

Before the Globe had a legend, Robert Greene was already writing for the crowd and the court. The stage feels newly lit. This Volume I gathers his dramatic writing alongside selected poems, with an account of the author and guiding notes, offering an elizabethan play anthology that reads as both theatre history and living entertainment. Expect the quick turns and musicality of english verse drama, the sparkle of early modern stage comedy, and the yearning pulse of renaissance romantic drama, set against the anxieties and appetites of 16th century england. Greene wrote at the hinge of medieval tradition and new commercial playhouses; his work shows how rhetoric, song, and popular storytelling were being remade for performance. Read one scene and you can hear the rehearsal room: pace, banter, and sudden lyric lift. As a robert greene plays collection, it stands among the essential shakespeare contemporaries drama that shaped Tudor stages and helped define what later audiences call the Renaissance. These collected renaissance dramas and annotated plays and poems invite students of english literature into close reading, while supporting shakespeare era research with period language, theatrical practice, and the literary rivalries of tudor theatre history. For casual readers it is an inviting doorway into Renaissance drama; for classic literature collectors, a dependable reference to return to again.
