A very scarce and decoratively bound anthology of quotations from classic works of poetry, used as a divination tool. A very scarce work in a decorative cloth binding, with bevelled edges and gilt detailing to the boards and spine. All edges gilt.Previous owner's label to the front free end paper.Illustrated with an engraved title page.An unusual work, compiling a selection of quotations from classic works of poetry, which can be used to divine answers to questions such as: 'What will be your destiny?', 'Shall I describe your lover?', and 'Where or what will be your home?'. An amusing Victorian drawing-room game, with quotations from well-known authors such as William Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Mrs Hemans, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Sheridan, William Makepeace Thackeray and many more. In a decorative cloth binding. Externally, smart, with shelf wear to the extremities, causing small losses to the corners and head of the spine. Hinges are slightly strained, but remain firmly held by cords. Remnants of tape to the gutter of the first few pages and to the rear pastedown. The title page and the advertisement page are detached but intact. Front free end paper and engraved title page are starting to come loose. The rest of the work is firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with the occasional small ink inscription. Good Only.
