A Dreadful Story (Paperback or Softback)

Monique is in the supermarket with her mother when she comes across a packet of seeds on sale: "Grow your own dragon, just add water."

She thinks it will turn out to be a snapdragon, and she asks her mother if she can have it.

Her mother agrees. What trouble can a packet of seeds cause?

"An enchanting story which should delight all young children who love dragons - and what child doesn't? There is a delicious sense of fun to the tale, which is not of the fairy variety but is set in the present-day world where a dragon egg just happens to be on sale at the supermarket. And for only $1.25! A real bargain, and you only have to add water. The text is accompanied by amusing drawings which capture the innocent charm of the story."

"It's a great title because kids love 'dreadful stories. As for the dragon, by the end of the story 'Dreadful' has a gut full and could well solve the waste disposal problems of the community. Its entertained me, though I'm no longer a 7-8 year old"

-Alan Hopgood AM

"This story is great for 7 and 8 year olds. It is strange and intriguing while still being funny. Dreadful is an interesting character because he is not the kind of dragon you see every day in story books."
