Item description from seller

Two volumes of the original 2 volume set - conditions the same unless noted: Heavy brown cloth on boards with elaborate blind stamped decorations to front and back and bright stamped gilt lettering to spine. Books are tight, square, relatively sharp-cornered and free of major flaws or markings other than some minor spotting to boards and a chip to top of spine on Vol. II. Stated as Thirtieth Thousand on copyright page, First Edition, early printing. Stowe had recently published her renowned Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852) and Sunny Memories (1854), a collection of her letters written to family and friends during her tour of Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. While abroad, Stowe attended anti-slavery meetings and was surprised at the eager reception she received. Sunny Memories is one of three travel memoirs that Stowe would write throughout her lifetime. Dred delves into the topic of runaway slaves who find refuge in the swamps of the South.
