Drenched In Reverie Poems

There are moments in our life, when we want to temporarily hang up our boots and spend some alone time by ourselves. We are compelled to introspect about our experiences and our life’s learning’s. We let our thoughts wander as we freely explore the many issues that we had grappled with in the past. We don’t try to label or bucket our understanding as this could stifle our thinking even before we have started. We undergo various emotions as we relive some of the events; some had been good and some bad. But to our surprise we realise that sometimes we had given in to peer pressure to act in a certain way. So our reactions to start with have been biased; driven by age old prejudices. We hope that these musings will throw light on what we have done until now and prepare us for the future.

You could say that this book is the outcome of her reflections. She felt the urge to pen her thoughts in poems; thus the book has been named, ‘Drenched in Reverie.’ She was deep in thought during this period and that’s why she chose to describe this process as drenched in a meditative mood. She has endeavored to present a kaleidoscope of views and experiences flowing out of the thinking, perception and circumstances that we are often faced with in the real world, bringing out their frailties and their strengths.

It has close to 70 poems and is over 200 pages. She has been pleasantly lost in my thoughts on a wide range of topics that we observe in our day to day life. Though she hasn’t arranged the poems in any particular order or section; the incisive reader might glean some broad themes.

The topics are diverse; some of the poems are on mundane issues that we deal with in our daily lives. We don’t give a second thought to the routine things that we do every day, because we are not particularly preoccupied by these activities. We might enjoy a morning cuppa coffee, but might not unduly fret over it to lose our sleep. We do things routinely like; take up a job to earn our bread and butter, go to the beach with family on holidays to wash away our blues. We might have a grumpy grandpa to handle at home; we watch the seasons as they change taking precautions to adapt to the change of the weather. Some of us get joy in performing the oft repeated tasks; for some it is actually a stress buster. There is always a surprise round the corner ...

Poems are diverse and vary from taking a lighter look at life like: ‘Circus in Town’, ‘Donkey Days’, ‘An Obese Runner’, ‘My Lazy Husband’, ‘The Bald Truth’; to the more serious topics on women, the workings of the mind and social issues.

Poems have been woven on statements we have heard often; ‘Mind You’, ‘Finger Pointing’, ‘A Whisker Away’, ‘At the Helm’ and ‘Call it Quits’. Poems like ‘Dreams that kept me Awake’, ‘Love Transplant, ‘A Non Violent Thought’, are intended to point to those that make life worth living for.

The poet couldn’t resist torching upon her favorite topic – nature; ‘Sunflower Fields’, ‘White Winter Paint Stokes, ‘Melting Snow a Delightful Sight’, ‘Safe guarding my Nest’; to name a few, are a testimony to it.
