Duets For Cello (Book/2 CDs) (Paperback)

Simple Symphony for String Orchestra: Study Score presents the complete score of Benjamin Britten's celebrated work for string orchestra. Created for conductors, ensemble directors, performers, educators, music libraries, and admirers of twentieth-century classical music, this edition provides a practical reference for score analysis, rehearsal preparation, classroom use, concert programming, and performance planning.

The score contains complete orchestral notation for Violin I, Violin II, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass. The work is based on musical ideas Britten originally composed between the ages of nine and twelve, later reworked and rescored as a unified four-movement composition for string ensemble. Although much of the thematic material comes from these childhood pieces, the later development and orchestration create a distinctive concert work that has become one of the composer's best-known contributions to the string orchestra repertoire.

Whether preparing rehearsals, examining Britten's orchestration, or following a live performance, this edition provides a clear view of the interaction between each string section throughout the approximately 16-minute work. Readers can observe thematic development, contrapuntal writing, orchestral balance, and formal structure while following the complete published score. The clear presentation also makes it convenient to reference individual passages during rehearsal planning, musical discussion, or independent score study.

This officially published score is well suited to rehearsal preparation, musical analysis, classroom reference, library collections, concert programming, and personal exploration of Benjamin Britten's music. Whether purchased for performance preparation, academic use, score collecting, or as a thoughtful gift for an admirer of classical string repertoire, it offers a reliable edition of this enduring work for string orchestra.
