About the Author

Duff Cooper is he author of numerous biographies, notably Talleyrand, and the memoir Old Men Forget. John Julies Norwich—his only son—trained as a diplomat, but gave up the Foreign Office to write. He is the premier historian of Venice. He is currently writing a history of the Mediterranean.
