Dupleix: And The Struggle For India By The European Nations

About The Book: Dupleix: And The Struggle For India By The European Nations by George Bruce Malleson explores the intense rivalry between European powers—particularly the French and British—for dominance in India during the 18th century. Centering on Joseph François Dupleix, the French governor-general, Malleson portrays his ambition, diplomatic skill, and military strategies in the larger geopolitical contest. The book highlights Dupleix’s role in shaping colonial India’s fate and offers critical insights into the colonial ambitions, political alliances, and military conflicts that defined that era. About The Author: Colonel George Bruce Malleson (1825–1898) was a British military officer and distinguished historian of British India. After serving in the Bengal infantry and holding key civil positions, including guardian to the Maharaja of Mysore, he turned to writing.
