Unresolved issues refer to past psychological conflicts, emotional wounds, or problematic situations from an individual's past that have not been adequately addressed or processed. These can stem from childhood trauma, abuse, or grief. I witnessed my dad's stagnation in unresolved issues before he passed—this trauma hardened his heart and affected his adult relationships. The fractures of his wounds caused him not to trust anyone, not even me. I believe that negative thoughts triggered dementia, which left his mind stuck in the throes of past trauma as I watched him replay the hurt and anguish of his childhood. This was painful for me to see because I wanted him to live his last days in peace. He pushed everyone away, becoming cantankerous; this was not the man I remembered. As I watched him shut everyone out, he died alone. The inheritance of silence explores the destructive, lifelong ripple effects of unaddressed psychological trauma.
