Hugo Borst vindt ‘mantelzorger’ een raar woord, maar hij is het wel. Al drie jaar verzorgt hij zijn zesentachtigjarige moeder, die aan dementie lijdt. Ma zit hier nu drie weken en elke dag is het raak. Liever zou ik eventjes niet meer gaan.
‘Het is hier verschrikkelijk,’ zegt ze.
Dan zwijgt ze. Ostentatief.
Ik leg mijn hand op haar knie.
Ze wijst naar de bovenkant van haar hoofd en zegt: ‘Je kan beter mijn kop inslaan.’
‘Dan kom ik in de gevangenis, ma.’
‘Dat is waar,’ zegt ze en ze peinst en dat doe ik ook, peinzen. Peinzen over haar hunkering naar een genadeklap.

Orders ship within 2 business days. US orders are shipped Media Mail unless otherwise requested at an additional charge.
INTERNATIONAL: Orders outside the US are shipped airmail using the Priority Mail International flat-rate mailer (4 lbs maximum weight, cost $55). Oversized books that require special packing will cost a minimum of $60 to ship overseas. When necessary, we'll request additional shipping compensarion through Abebooks system.
