Synopsis
Sure to be a monster-hit with kids who have been bitten by the 'creatures of the dark' bug, this series takes a fresh look at legends, tales and sightings of monsters, aliens and weird creatures from around the world.
From Booklist
After a brief pep talk by author Gomer Bolstrood—let’s hope that’s not a pseudonym!—readers are ushered into what is presented as the very serious world of alien hunting. Tools are suggested: a camera, a voice recorder for witnesses, a writing pad, sealed containers for samples, and, if you’re really lucky, a Geiger counter. The bulk of the book, however, is made up of two-page chapters detailing various sightings (foo fighters, the Flatwoods Monster, the Belgian UFO craze of the 1990s, Area 51, etc.), each of which is stamped with either “Fake or Mistake” or “Case Open.” The layout is invigorating, with plenty of info squeezed in around a nice array of snapshots, though for a few of them, it isn’t clear if they are actual photos or re-creations. A discussion of movies and alien types closes. This will be most useful for research papers and speeches on the paranormal. Grades 5-7. --Daniel Kraus
