He analyses the "commonsense" explanations for SHC as alcohol- or smoking-related accidental deaths, and the much-vaunted "wick effect" whereby a body is supposed to be immolated in its own fat, and exposes their inadequacy.

About the Author

John Heymer was a coal miner before a mining accident caused him to start working for the police, first as a training instructor, but letterly as a scene of crime officer. He is now retired and lives in South Wales with his wife.
