EPIDEMIOLOGY FOR PHARMACISTS: Principles, Evidence, and Practice

Pharmacists are trained to master the pharmacology of individual drugs, but the evidence behind those drugs — the trials, the surveillance data, the outbreak reports — is written in the language of epidemiology. Epidemiology for Pharmacists teaches that language from the ground up, pairing every concept with a real, worked example: how John Snow traced a cholera outbreak to a single pump, why a landmark statin trial's benefit held up (or didn't) once absolute risk replaced relative risk, and how a delayed pharmacovigilance signal turned Vioxx from a blockbuster into a withdrawal. Across eighteen chapters, readers build the full toolkit — study design, bias and confounding, biostatistics done by hand, drug utilization review, outbreak investigation, and immunization epidemiology — so that reading a clinical trial critically becomes as routine as checking a drug interaction.
