Includes map and table engraved by Eleazar Huntington, and woodcuts by John Warner Barber; with six engraved plates at front, fold out historical and ecclesiastical chart, and one (damaged) fold out map of Palestine. Written by Reverend John Marsh (1788-1868) , who served as the minister of Haddam's First Congregational Church in the 1820s; this history, first printed in 1827, went through at least eight printings before 1870; the Epitome condenses a narrative overview of biblical history, history of the second temple period, early Christian doctrines and tendencies, martyrs, Anabaptist, Unitarian, and other early protestant tendencies, and contemporary protestant denominations and missionary activities; appendices details Jewish history since the exile.
