About the Author

José M. Pérez-Pomes obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Málaga 2000, and was post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, Medical University of South Carolina until 2002. He is now a professor at the Deparment of Animal Biology at the University of Malage and is the chair of Nucleus (board) of the Working Group on "Development, Anatomy and Pathology" of the European Society of Cardiology.

As PI of the "Cardiovascular Development & Disease" (DeCA) research group, Dr. Pérez-Pomares is interested in the developmental bases of cardiovascular disease, and the team aims at identifying new diagnostic and prognostic markers as well as therapeutical targets and advanced therapies to treat the diseased heart. He is author of 10 book chapters and more than 60 publications in peer-reviewed, international journals.
